Unhappy Weird audio problem!

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and I'm trying to see if anyone had something similar to my problem.

I have a ML320 W164, and I love this car. Few days ago, while driving, my audio sound cut off, and 2 seconds later Comand Navigation screen went off. I tried to power on but only the logo comes on to the screen, and after a few seconds shuts down. After 15-20min, while driving, it comes back on, , radio works just normal, and after 2 minutes, shuts down again, and this keeps repeating.

The car has MOST fibre optic and Harman/Becker amplifier.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

Pull the unit and see if the little fan still spins.

I just did. When the head unit is not working and I try to power on, I can hear de fan starting and 1 second later the unit shuts down. If i disconnect the power cables from the unit and then reconnect them, it starts every time, radio working, everything working, but only for 10-15seconds, after that is shuts down again, sound goes off firts, then the head unit.

Do you think on a STAR Diag, I can pin point the exact part causing this problem?

Thank you.

I'd try unplugging everything first. The plugs on the head unit and the ones, probably under the rear seat, Mine doesn't have those fancy parts, so I'm not too sure!
Like turning an old computer off then back on again!

It may be worthwhile giving these fellows a shout Command Online they may be able to give you a clue. They are very experienced with ML audio.

Star would probably be a good idea, I'm just hoping to save you a few bucks first. Unless you have your own or access to a good independent.

Anyway, good luck!

So far, from the MOST fibre ring I could test the bluetooth module and the tv tuner, both are working. I didn't find a tele aid (SOS) module, I don't think my car has one. Everything points to the audio amplifier, several people told me that most probably water infiltration might be the cause. I will take out the driver seat next Tuesday and try to replace the amplifier.

I'll post an update as soon as I have news on this.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks.

Just an update, yes, the comand head unit was the problem, something electrical on the board. Now fixed.

Just repaired at some small company here in my country, they fix any type of navigation. And cheap, it cost me around 90 dollars.

perfect, that makes me feel good. I'm taking the comand out of my mom's glk this afternoon and taking it to a local place that says they can fix it. It is doing the exact thing yours is doing.
