new timing chain?
check engine light was on last week. got code: 108800 "The signal from component b6/1(camshaft hall sensor) is faulty." checked power at pin 3 of b6/1 ok, checked groud at pin 1 found 0.2 ohms, checked input signal at pin 2, found 5v, ok. removed chain tensioner, installed measuring chain tensioner, found 88 mm of stretch on chain.
Question 1: I don't find any benz document to shows how much maximum millimetres of stretch on chain is a sign to need a new timing chain.
Question 2: clean the codes, now check engine light is off, car drive normal, do I need a new timing chain?

I record the sound of my engine cold start, Does anyone can tell from the attached sounds if my timing chain is good or not.

hi Timx, were you able to find out what exactly is the issue with your engine?
my 2009 ml350 makes the exact sound, one mechanic said it timing chain/guides related, another mechanic said I’d check oil pressure to make sure engine gets oil before doing anything else. But he didn’t have the adaptor for Mercedes.

yes, the dealer removed chain tensioner, installed measuring chain tensioner, found 88 mm of stretch on chain. which is over 82mm. I need a new timing chain.
I am not sure about yours.

Yes, that IS the chain tensioner noise. I was in the same denial until I change the oil cooler, chain and tensioner, and water pump ( while at it ) last month.
The chain was physically 25mm longer than the new one I put in. Quite and smooth now. Chasing some codes now.
The chain replacement is a BIG JOB. I would only tackle that if you are very experienced. I followed a guys instructions and the challenge of that job it to not let the cams jump on you and lose timing. They jump hard when a valve is closing and I lost timing so I had to remove both covers and hand roll the chain to a place I could reconnect and set timing. My ML350 has 74k miles on it. Ridiculous that a car that was serviced by MB failed at such mileage. The guy I bought it from had an estimate of $7000 for the repairs from MB.
