Xenon lights issue
This morning I observed that my driver's side xenon low beam was nearly a purple color compared to the passenger side light, which is operating normally. Is it correct to assume this is the bulb dying or might this be the ballast beginning to fail? If it's the bulb, then I'll just go ahead and replace both if this is a easy DIY. Is it?

Easy to diy
Best to replace both. I recommend phylips xtremevision.

Replaced both bulbs. I opted to install Philips 85415WHV2S1 WhiteVision Gen2 Xenon Headlight D1S bulbs. Easy DIY. Problem solved and low beams haven't been as white and bright in some time. The degradation is slow on HIDs; after 10 years and 130K miles, it's like having new headlights. I'd almost say for anyone that's had their ML on the road for 8 -10 years, I'd put in a fresh set of D1S bulbs just as ordinary maintenance for the age of the vehicle.
