2007 Ml350 electronic issues

Hello everyone. This morning I noticed that there is an issue with my SUV. I went to use my remote to unlock and it didnt. I manually unlocked the SUV and then started it up. I then noticed that the turn signals are not working, my srs light is on, and the rear lift gate is not functioning. The lift gate seems to have no power at all and is not closing, it just pulls open. Yesterday there was no issues whatsoever. We had a huge amount of rain over night and all of a sudden these issues. Does anyone have any idea? Please help. I tried explaining the issue as best I can.

Your rear SAM and Tailgate Module and or tailgate pump have been wet with rain water entering via faulty tail lamp seals. The longer you wait, the more damage will occur.

When you get the seals, remove both tail lamps and you will see that the seals were attached to the tail lamp. Remove them from the lamp and clean off all residue. Then place the new seals on the body opening and then install the tail lamp. Do not place the seals back on the tail lamp.

Only buy the new seals from a M/B dealer or an online dealer.

100% positive that your rear SAM has water damage and needs to be replaced (I had to replace mine for ~$600 including parts and programming time a few months ago due to the same issues). This problem has been discussed heavily on this forum. It all stems from how the rear tail light seals were applied at the factory. The tail light seal was adhered to the tail light assembly, not the body of the vehicle. This allows water to seep behind the tail light assembly and drip directly onto the rear SAM causing corrosion of the PCB...great placement on that one! There are thicker seals out there now that you can replace your existing ones with which will stop any future leaks.

To check for water damage just remove both rear interior side panels and look for signs of water in the bottom of the body panel cavity. In my case there was ~1" of standing water and my drain on the passenger side was totally plugged up with gunk. The image below shows the corrosion that I had on my SAM unit. Hope this helps!

I noticed that there was some water on the fuse box in the rear passenger cargo. I used an air hose and lightly air it out and dryer it. Checked fuses and seem fine. I looked below and see the Sam. Seems dry down there. There is a little water on the driver side but nothing seems to be affected there. Would that module affect the srs, front cigarette plug, turn signals, etc? When I first started the vehicle. My brake light were on as if being pressed and now they are fine and work normal

Ok thank you. Also, what type of programming does it need after install? I take its something that a professional has to do? I called a Mercedes dealer and was told that the Sam costs $541 but "Mercedes policy" does allow them to sell it to me, I was told I have to bring my vehicle there.

First of all you have not acknowledged the fact that you must have the tail lamp seals replaced.

Secondly you must check the tailgate module and the tailgate pump for corrosion.

The dealer will only remove and install the SAM but they will not clean up the mess on the spare tire floor.

And yes the veh. must be brought to the dealer so the SAM can be coded to operate all of the features that your veh. has.
