Lifting ML

I just picked up a 2008 ML 320 CDI and I want to do a lift kit? Anyone knows of good lift spacers or springs?

Also, can you adjust the front torsion on the w164 like on the w163?

No, 164 models do not have torsion bars as the 163 has.

M/B does not supply lift info. You will have to check the internet.

Do you have steel suspension or airmatic?

Steel suspension is a bit more difficult because of the steel flap running along side the front shock that's part of the frame, so you can't really use spring spacers.

I'm trying to lift my ML320 ~2" to accommodate larger tires to be able to do some over-landing. I've got something I've been working on which should allow for ~2" lift, but am unable to test it because I'm down with a broken foot and can't work on the car...

That is exactly what I am trying to do.

I want to put 255 60 19” (31”) tires but i am affraid i am going to rub.

So far this is the only kit i have found on ebay.
Are you saying there is no way to mount them from the top?

sorry to hear about your foot. Hopefully it heals quick.

While I've never seen a specific list kit for the w164, a company called SPACCER claim to make lift kit spacers for most makes and models. Hit them up

I have looked at spaccer but it seems theyre universal and I wouldnt trust their kits unless I see one on another vehicle as theyre too broad.

Hello all,

I just installed last week 255 60 19 Continental Cross contact LX 20. I went from 245 45 to 255 60. I ordered them at discount tire and called them for a fit test and they were nice enough and tried a tire in the front and no rubbing issues at all. Overall I gained 2” in diameter which gives me a 1” lift. My speedometer is about 6mph off at 60+ mph but i got my passport max that I look for the speed.
Also, I ordered and received spacers on ebay from a company called rising tuning and they look great. I will take pictures when I install them.

Also other projects that I have completed is 6000k bulb upgrade and 6000k led fog lights upgrade along woth new fog lenses, chrome window trim, gloss black a, b, and c pilar covers, and, gloss black front grill.
W166 mirror covers with led flood lights and newer style turn signals.
I also have ordered amg fender flares. When I install those, I will look at probably 20-25 mm spacers to bring the wheels out to run flush with the fender flares.

Will keep you posted once I install the lift spacers.

Hello everyone,

Finally the lift is installed. Its from ebay- russian company rising tuning and they were very helpful in providing pictures of spacers installed.

i had an indy shop do it while I was giving them instructions and helping on how to remove everything as I had removed the struts on the GL 3 times.

I couldnt be more happier with the results I got. Overall from stock I have gained almost 3” inches and the ML sits slightly higher than the GL on standard height.

I will post some pictures soon.

Below is the measured height after install.

Awesome! Looking forward to comparison pics of car.
Couple questions for you:
Can you remove non-air strut in front without removing axle?
Will the axles be ok with that steep of an angle? Pics of suspension underside and axles would be great

Yes you can. What you do is remove the 24 mm strut bolt. Remove the 19 or 21 upper control arm nut. Then remove the 19 mm lower link. Have a jack under the axle assembly then all you do is loosen the 36 mm axle nut. As you loosen it you will see the axle shaft pop out from the front to about an inch or so to give you clearance to lift the strut up and over the axle. Remove the top strut mount 13 mm nuts and it will come out easily towards the front of the vehicle. On air suspension the axle shaft loosening is not necessary as the blown airbag is usually deflated or aired out so its not compressed such as in the case of my GL.

The axles seem to be just fine and I have no issues whatsoever. I believe there is no difference between suspension components with air suspension and standard spring suspension, thus allowance in raising and lowering should be the same.

I have 30 mm wheel spacers coming so when I install those I will take pics of the procedure.

You need to remove the spring control arm. To get the spring out. I dont recall exactly, but I think we tried to compress the spring so we dont habe to remove the arm, but we didnt have enough clearance. So we lowered the control arm and then mounted the spacer.

Make sure you have a shop that will install them because no one would do it for me so I had to do it myself. Or if you can do it yourself even better.

I found a shop to install the kit. They put it together and are saying that the wheels won't align. Did you receive more than four spacers and bolts with your kit?

I received 4 spacers. 2 for the front with 3 self locking bolts and nuts and 2 spacers in the rear without any mounting hardware as they just sit between the control arm and the spring.

I had no alignment issues whatsoever
