V Belt Sitting off on Tensioner Pulley

Hi,
2008 ML350,
I noticed that the V belt sits on the tensioner pulley off by about 1/8". All other pulleys look fine.I was wondering if it's normal for these engines or is there something I can do to remedy this. Please see attached photo.

The belt part number depends on the vin#. Post your full vin#.

Do you mean replacing tensioner and the pulley? If so, would you post the torques too. Thanks

I went outside and looked at my belt. My 2007 (ML 350) Mercedes serpentine belt does not extend further than the pulley.

No, I'm trying to find out what the proper belt number should be. Just hang on.

Your 18 96 belt has been replaced with an updated one.

Mr. Major, I believe that I have caused some confusion. I recently posted a pic of my serpentine belt to highlight the fact that it does not extend further than the pulley. I am not the original poster.

Does your belt have the part number on it? If so, is the part number visible?

Here is the proper belt that should be on your pulleys.

For whatever reason, M/B does not supply instructions for removal of the belt for 272 Engines. The attachments are the best I can do.

Thanks Major, I'll check the number.
I'm going to remove the tensioner just to see what it's like on the loose. I'm thinking it might have warped over time. Just to check. So I need your help for the torque when reinstalling the tensioner.
Thank you

What does this mean and why do you want to remove it.................I'm going to remove the tensioner just to see what it's like on the loose.

To see if I can spot the warp by placing it against a flat surface

But the issue is not with the pulley, it's with the belt. The dimensions of the belt have changed.

As for the torque specs, it would be in your best interest to purchase the WIS material.

The two fasteners for the belt tensioner on most 272 engines require 35 Nm during re-installation. Before you R&R, there is a pin hole that holds the tensioner in the install/shipping position that will make the job much easier if you stick something in it to hold it.. (see photo).

While changing my serpentine belt on 2011 E350 I noticed that the belt was hanging off the tensioner pulley also, what was the final answer to this, is it supposed to hang off by about 1/8"?

So was the issue that the belt installed was wider than the OEM belt? The belt I took off was also hanging off the pulley.

I haven't changed it yet as I don't use that car often. I reinstalled the belt and it looks ok so far. I'm keeping an eye to see if it comes back. OEM is very costly.
