07 ML350 Transmission problems
Hey. First time posting. I've got a 07 ml350. Occasionally it had issues with up and down shifting. And sometimes going in reverse. When it happened. You could turn the car off for a few seconds. And it was fine when it restarted.
then one day it wouldn't go into drive or reverse. But neutral was fine. Brought it to a shop. They said it's the 'shift module'. And would cost 2200 to repair. I said great because it has low miles.
The next day they called and said. The transmission filter was busted off and there was metal flakes in the pan. And it won't move with the new part. And needs a used or new transmission. At a cost of 4500 for used. Because they said whatever sensor they replaced. Has to go in the used transmission.
I've attached the codes they found. Can anyone tell me if I'm getting taken for a ride? I said I didn't want to pay for a sensor it didn't need. If the entire transmission was screwed from the start.

I think you are getting taken for a ride. The fact they are giving you a list of codes they pulled with them not even related to the issue! A stored code doesn't mean its current first of all. Check out this video.
Another video that may be of use.
You could have also tried to just unplug the battery as a first step to reset all electrical components, the transmission will do a relearn, which you could do with another method but cutting power is a good start.
Was it the ISM or or TCU module they replaced? What voltage is the battery reporting if you look at the display? The fact you drop $2200 on what they say is the problem and know they tell you "Oh you have to drop 4500 for a transmission now".

I finally found out the sensor they replaced. https://www.mboemparts.com/oem-parts...0185280?c=az0x
To be clear. I haven't paid them yet. I told the shop I just want it back. So I can take it somewhere else. But they're refusing to release it. Until I pay the bill. Which they now say is $1920. For a sub that doesn't move.
