Insane day with ml350
The wife swerved to miss a dog then had to brake hard to miss an *** that was trying to pass when a brake pressure alarm went off, which disabled the car. AAA took almost 3 hours to come and as they got there the flashers must have killed the battery and the windows started going up and down on their own. I arrive and notice smoke coming from the rear passenger door. Frantically I pulled all the fuses and still the smoke did not stop. So I finaly located the battery under the seat and removed the+ terminal to keep the car from catching fire. How bad am I screwed? Previously the car has given perfect service, nothing required beyond scheduled maintenance.

Sorry to hear. No way to know until the car is put back together with a fresh battery and you try to start back up. A STAR system is likely needed to read and clear what will likely be a number of codes.
Smoke is not a good sign. Wiring at a minimum could have been damaged, possibly more (modules, motors, switches, etc.).

I was in a near fuge state not wanting her to catch on fire and frantically could do nothin about it. A fireman figured out where the battery was. The smoke wasn't much like a cigar maybe but it was definitely electrical.

The local guy said that multiple modules are not communicating, best to tow it to the dealer. The original error was presafe inoperative (brakes) after a really hard application of the brakes. My plan is to tow it to my house inspect each wheel closely recharge the battery completely. and then check with the mercedes specific icarsoft reader/tool I bought for this car. I think the wife burnt the window motor up trying to get the windows to stop going up and down. Wish me luck guys this is a few stories above my pay grade, but I got to do something to get this back.

I have a huntron tracker and can troubleshoot the sam if is not encased in epoxy but as to the software, I have no idea. if the sam function is an input out put card, I can possibly repair it if parts are available. I am a rookie when it comes to MB, but I have a lot of experience with electronics in general.

I resolved my problems. After checking the rear sam components and finding nothing wrong, I decided to order a specific code reader as the cheap pissant one that I had was doing nothing for the situation. It is an Icarsoft mb 2 and set to work clearing codes and when I did the errors cleared and I was able to get the car running, with only 2 problems left. !. the auxiliary battery has a problem and the horn will not work and I am troubleshooting them both in the next couple days. thanks to all that replied, and to whoever recommended the Icarsoft to me!
