Is it correct that all W164’s are assembled in the US, with engines and transmissions from Germany, then shipped worldwide?

This place is a joke.
Yes, final assembly in Alabama. Drivetrains can be built anywhere, the latest 4 cylinder engines are assembled by Nissan in Mexico. On any Mercedes look at the driver's door jamb/VIN sticker and it will tell you the final assembly point. Some models are built in Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, and all over the world.

The original window sticker also has manufacturing location for engine and transmission.

And Daimler’s legacy media site has manufacturing information published when the various engines and transmissions were newly launched.

They are. MBUSI was the only assembly plant for 164.

http://www.mbusi.com

it’s the same for BMW X3, X5, etc. in fact the USA BMW plant is the largest exporter of made in USA vehicles.
