When I push the P button to park my vehicle, nothing happens; it used to go into park but now I have to open the door for it to go into park. Any idea on this issue? Also, I understand a message on the dash control panel that reads service B is for an oil change. Can a non-Mercedes’ service shop change the oil and reset that reading?

Very likely just a button issue then because the car puts the vehicle in park when doors are opened to prevent it from rolling away as you know and since it is doing precisely that, you know the transmission is fine. Service B is more than an oil change, like brake fluid, other types of filters (other than just the oil filter) and depending on the age of your vehicle, it could include transmission oil fluid etc. It seems like you still have 600+ miles to go before you need that though, also the service reminder can be reset easily.

Any water getting anywhere?
We had this recently.
Sometimes won't go to park, other times D or R and finally stuck in park I think due to moisture getting in, screwing up CANBUS comm.
Yesterday cleared errors in SCM (Steering column module) via iCarsoft MBII and despite errors saying I needed new shift module, suddenly its working. See my other thread.

 

FYI problem is back and won't clear.
Replacing shift module since scanner says it's bad. Hoping that fixes it.
