2006 ML320CDI traction control going off prematurely

I have a 06 ML320 with 320,000km on it. When I turn more than say half turn on the steering wheel and do a brisk acceleration (to enter a intersection etc. (no where near fast enough to break traction) I get the ASC engage momentarily.

this is my daughter’s car and on my 08GL or wifes 06 ML Doing same manoeuvre I don’t get the ASC engage

I do have a code for faulty steering wheel angle sensor as stored only but the live data gives normal data for steering angle with wheel movements so don’t know why I have the code

. I don’t have a warning light error (sometimes the ASC light flashes as you would expect when it engages but no messages on dash read out at all

i don’t really want to change the sensor just as a trial as I don’t see why it would be faulty if the live data is normal

any thoughts appreciated
