My 2008 ML 320 CDI has the Power Lift option on the lift gate. The lift gate struts are original.

Have no issues with opening or closing. I just do not want to wear out the power lift hydraulics if the struts are weak.

Just replaced them on stepdaughter’s ‘07 GL with maybe 150k miles.

they are fine and original on my 87k mile ‘07 GL, which clearly sees less use. Pretty sure ML and GL are same.

BTW, there is a crazy pricing anomaly on these. Checked my usual online Mercedes dealer source, and they were ~$205 each. Stabilis, which are original equipment, from aftermarket suppliers are $20 for the left one and $85 for the right one.

These come with the metal brackets, but the screws to body on originals required larger wrench than I had to loosen, so just kept the old brackets.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to replace them just for peace of mind and am awaiting delivery.

On my 2008 both struts are the same. I found the Stabilus ones on Partsgeek.com.

I have done a few - both times about 13-14 years old and around 280,000km - both were identical

Replaced both power lift gate struts - simple process and the opening speed is noticeably improved.
