Oil leak, rear crankshaft seal
Hi all.
My 2010 ML350 Bluetec has a leak at the back of the engine. My tech says it's the rear crankshaft seal. I'm a bit skeptical because I haven't seen much complaints about this seal leaking. Could it be a misdiagnosis? Could it be the oil cooler?
I bought the car used with 180k miles on the engine. I now have around 195k on it. I lose around a quart of oil in a month or month and half. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Your instinct is correct. Chances are its the oil cooler seal that's leaking rather than the rear main seal, which as you said, there isn't alot of evidence for. Make sure your talking to an experienced MB mechanic. Indies are best. If the fella you spoke to didnt mention the oil cooler seals, thats a red flag given how prevalent this issue is for the diesels.
