ML350 Stuck In Park ISM Issue Maybe?




Once I got home I reversed into my driveway, shut off the car and that was it until Friday.
When I hopped into the vehicle Friday afternoon and went to start it, it BARELY turned over but managed to start so I let it sit for a bit and when I went to put it into D I got the dreaded "Do not shift gears, drive to shop" message.
I immediately remembered this happening to me before when I swapped out the AUX battery years ago and all it took was disconnecting everything again and it corrected itself so I thought maybe this was the culprit again.
I had a new AUX battery so I took my battery out, charged it, and put the new AUX battery in along with the fully charged battery but no dice, same issue.
My ML starts NP, shows it is in P on my dash but if I try to put it into R or D I get the same message.
If I open my door it tells me it is in gear,
I went and bought a new AGM battery (it obviously needed one anyway) and installed it today but of course no change.
Scanner shows the 1904 & 1974.
Now I am starting to wonder if I messed up and left the car in Reverse (I am usually so good with putting it in P but my old sick dog was in the back & my mind just might have been elsewhere) and didn't put it into P when I shut it off on Thursday so the ISM thinks and shows it is in P but the transmission is still in R?
You think it is worth to jack up the car, remove the ISM, and manually rotate the gear into P to see if they 'sync'?
Would that work?
I was hoping my Ancel X6 would have the option to put the ISM into N but it can't do that function.

I went through codes, live data every module,
found mulltiple references to the shift module,
ISM and CANBUS. ISM is dealer only, and
canbus fuggetaboutit! Diagnostic would be minimum of $200 so,
I replaced the shifter module for about $200, and it resolved it.
