ML Balance Shaft Issue- questions
Hi,
Long time S and Sl owner here looking to purchase a 2006-2011 ML. My research has showed the 2006-2008 models have multiple issues with the balanceshaft being the most common/expensive fix. A VIN decoder tool can help to see if your model engine falls into the problamatic category. I saw one user on the board state that this issue was not common and only effected about 5% of the 2006-2008 model years. Which had me thinking that is this issue was not that common, why did mercedes extend the warranty after a class action law suit.
Anyway, I'm being told the 2009-2011 is the sweet spot for the ML. Lots of positive reviews. if the balance shaft issue has been addressed, is it safe to purchase a 2006-2008 model or should i stay away all together. i think starting in 2008 the issue was resolved by mercedes.....The body style is the same and of course comes at a bit of a cheaper cost than the 2009-2011.

2009 to 2011 is the sweet spot. See attached the official bulletin that will allow you to filter cars by engine number for impacted engines.
