grinding noise
Hello all. I have a weird problem with my 2010 ML 350. There is a metal griding noise coming from driver's side engine bay. It is louder in the passenger compartment than the engine compartment. It is a steady grinding noise. The speed of grinding does not increase or decrease with engine speed but the noise itself does get louder with higher RPMs to a point. I have used a stethoscope to listen to all of the engine accessories and have not been able to find anything abnormal. I am usually good with diagnosing pulleys and or other noises. What gets to me is that the speed of the noise does not change with RPMs. The noise is intermittent. sometimes more noticeable than other times. Has anyone had this same problem and have you found a solution. Thank you.

Caveat: I know nothing about the different positioning of components between left and right hand drive ML's
Assuming the noise is when the car is stopped.
The only time I have come across something similar is when the bearings on the alternator of my old Ford Fiesta were on the way out.

I’m having this exact same issue in my 2010 ML350. At first I heard it once in a while but by now, it’s constant. Driving, parked, non stop. If you find the problem let me know!!
