MAF sensor(s) problem?

HI Guys, I try to figure out what to do with following problem,

My symptoms are:
  • Slow start (2 seconds) cold and warm
  • Incidentally I feel there is less power than there should be, especially with a hot engine.
  • When I really put the pedal to the metal I get an engine warning light and when I read the error I get:


I reset the error and all is fine again until I accelerate real fast again.

I can buy a replacement for the whole MAF unit for like € 400,- , Or I can bring the car to the mechanic to do a more extensive diagnostic which makes the problem more expensive.
What you guys think?.

If there are any air leaks between the MAF and the engine, that will skew its readings and cause problems. You can check airflow readings with a good scan tool. If it’s just off a bit you can try some CRC MAF cleaner too. Or the MAF might simply be dead but looking at live data in your scan tool should help you determine that.

And that appeared to be the cause.
I went to my mechanic and he took the MAF off and he found one side was not properly connected to the air filter . Since he installed a fresh fuel filter lately he apologized for the inconvenience.
After he reinstalled the MAF I tested the ML by accelerating like a madman a few times and no engine lights anymore and power seems good

That’s often the case and why I mentioned it. Glad it was an easy fix.
