When to replace shocks, front or rear 2011 ML350
My 2011 ML350 is still on its original shocks, the SUV has 77,000 on it. No mechanic has ever mentioned they need to be replaced. On my 2006 E90 325i, with 102,000 miles, I recently got front and rear shocks (original ones since 2006) replaced because I just happened to notice the bump stops were disintegrated while repairing something else on that car.
The ride still seems fine to me no excessive bouncing when going over dips or.bumps.

the easy way to test is to to do a bounce test.

Mine is a 2009 550 with 110k miles. Original shocks all around now onto their 3rd set of front airbags and 2nd set of rear ones. Still solid.

The only thing I woukd add is if you have air suspension, you need to.match up the life of the air bags with the shocks so you don't end up changing one only to have to do it all again soon as the other has given way. Next time I need air bags or shocks, whichever fails, I'll change both.

2010 ML350 119k - original shocks all around.
However, one of the rear springs already broke and had to be replaced. it's worthwhile to inspect those at every oil change.
