Steering wheel replacement

2010 ML350

My steering wheel leather is worn out. I tried to use one of those DYI leather covers that you sew in but and it looks awful. I called a upholstery shop and they said it would be cheaper for me to find a decent shape steering wheel off ebay and just replace the steering wheel. I'm looking at $300-$400 just to replace the leather from the shop

Has anyone replaced the steering wheel on their vehicle? Is there any programming involved? I see a number of steering wheels on ebay between $100-$200 but it looks like the airbag and module all need to be transferred to the new steering wheel.

Doesn't look hard to take off- probably need an impact gun for the screw holding in the steering wheel but everything else looks straight forward......??????

‘I bought one of those “Stitching Cover” covers for mine but have yet to put it on. I saw some other guys running it on another model car and it looked really good. They have a listing specifically for the W164 too: https://stitchingcover.com/collectio...lass-2009-2012

Guess I need to get my butt in gear and do mine.

No experience replacing one on a MB, but it was just undo the center nut and unplug on other cars. I've never needed an impact to get the nut loose - not that much torque on them. Make sure you disconnect the battery before disconnecting the wheel to prevent airbag lights and center the old wheel before pulling it off.

i don’t think the steering wheel I bought is compatible. I see a green wire that I’m not sure where to plug in. I haven’t taken the airbag off yet to see the part number of my current steering wheel but I think this is wrong. It connects to some little module on the bottom- I see other steering wheels on eBay without this green plug

i saw a YT video and the only plugs were 2 for the air bag, a black ground wire and the left/right paddle shifter plug

nothing green as seen below

This is the module that was inside of the used steering wheel I bought. What is this?
