Motorcycle Hitch carrier on W164

I have a 2008 ML550 and would like to carry a dirt bike on a motorcycle hitch carrier. I have read the following regarding tongue weight capacity:

"A Mercedes W164 typically has a trailer hitch tongue weight capacity of around 350 lbs. when equipped with a Class 3 hitch, which is the standard for this vehicle;meaning it can handle a tongue weight of up to 350 pounds while towing a trailer with a maximum weight carrying capacity of 3,500 pounds."
Is the above information correct?

The weight of the bike is 251 pounds, add a full tank of fuel (approx. 25 lbs.) and the carrier weight (51 lbs.) for a total of 327 pounds. Therefore, this should be ok with no issues?

Has anyone done this before and all works out ok, maybe anyone have a picture with the carrier and bike installed?

Many thanks in advance.

This is a very good question but unfortunately I can't help you. I will be watching this thread. As I would love to add a OEM tow hitch to our but can't seem to find one and actually what it involves.

I hope the group helps you out.

Well, I am not looking for a tow hitch, as mine has a factory tow hitch installed. I just want to know if the tongue carrying capacity is indeed 350 lbs. as stated and if carrying that bike in the back will cause any issues.

The placard for the weight rating is on the hitch itself. If you truly have an OEM hitch, that is rated up to 750 lbs. However, there were a few years with bad welds so you will have to check for that.
