Well we're getting a little late in the show season, having missed Detroit and LA. Perhaps a spring release in Paris or Frankfurt.

velociraptor, when the test of the w166 has begun? middle-end of 2009? in about 2 years i hope they tested everything in the deep...

the new mclaren mp4 has been completely developed and tested in 4 year...the merc. has to do the half of the job..engine, elettronics, gearbox, all already done...2 years just to test the mecanic and some elettronics already existed...

hope it will be trouble-free
l'm not sure what your point is ????? l have ambient lighting in my 11 ML550 and l'm pretty sure no M-Class comes with alacantra roof lining ???

first i'm talking about the reliability of the car...it has been testing for more 2 year..hope will it be more reliable than the first produced ml w164

i'm talking about the european edition, there are a lot of difference between the american's ones

alcantara roof is optional at about 500 €, we don't have any premium package 1 or 2..we have

base chrome sport premium ...as 4 standard model + every single optional..

but some optional as the ambient light are just an exclusive for the grand edition, is an edition that is sell almost when a car is about to get out of production.

audi or bmw are a lot different..there is just the car without any base and you choose from zero every optional you want...

in europe a ml chrome, full with the optional of a sport will cost more the sport...there are like a 4 base pack

about the official debut...spring of 2012?

The ML interior is tired now (it's over 5 years old), though it still looks good when equipped with the ARTICO dashboard, ambient lighting, etc. Regardless, the W166 interior will impress. I'm guessing it will drop at the NY Auto Show.

mmm

yes the steering wheel with a kind of the new CLS one (about the control)

instrument cluster pratically the same except the tft lcd screen inside the tacho

navi and air conditioning...like CLS

the 2 vertical grill for air conditioning, near the center screen are very awsome, i make it looks stronger like a true off road (as mitsu shogun-pajero or a toyota land cruiser)

could u tell me something about that kind of ''terrain response'' on the right, at the end of the center console?

I asked a rep at the Chicago auto show and she told me its debut is at the NYC auto show. For those of you that are going to the NYC auto show, ask your rep a lot of questions this will get you into the V.I.P lounge lol.

Aside from build quality, I'm curious to hear your opinion on the actual console controls, features, and functionality of the Q7 vs RX vs X5 vs ML. Personally, I think the ML has fallen waaay behind in these categories, especially with its outdated COMAND (small screen, low resolution, not at top of dash, no knob, very few features, etc etc). Take the X5 for example. It has the 10"+ screen with high resolution, much better NAV, knob controller, way more features (top-down view, side-view, etc), album previews, and the list go on. The RX with it's mouse-like controller is also more advanced than the MLs, and the Q7 with MMI is also much more advanced than the MLs. I actually think even the updated COMAND systems in the new E-class, C-class, etc are a step or two behind.

I'm hoping the new ML/GL will at least be comparable (holding out on the "better" than the competition as that would be too much to ask for. )

Great points...............Cal...........

In fairness, as mentioned the ML is dated......especially the interior...though the Grand Edition ML550 with its leather IP and the ambient lighting does add a nice touch of luxury..............But the COMAND system is embarassing..my friends Garmin is more user friendly..............and it has over 6 million POI, whereas the Benz has 1.8...................Furthermore, the screen is too small and is positioned too low for effective viewing..........Yes..l am aware of the smaller MFD, which l use to navigate, whereas, the other screen is more for passenger viewing..........Other isues'.................Cheap looking and cheap feeling roof liner..............A poorly designed center console......one big box..everything settles to the bottom....The two huge cupholders ???? Could they have not positioned them East-West, instead of North-South, and left some more usable space for storage, for maybe your sunglasses ???? and No...mine don't fit into that little storage drawer below the COMAND....

l think a fairer comparsion will be with the 2012 M-Class...

X-5............Bland interior..................and not that overly spacious...volume wise..............
RX.............To be honest..it is more of a "glorified Toyota"...it doesn't feel luxurious inside at all.............l like the video screens in the back..nicely integrated into the back seat.........( we want even talk about the M-Classes video screens..they almost feel aftermarket...what were they thinking !!!!) and l like the fact, that the rear seats are reclinable.......again....the M-Class does not offer this............l guess us Benz people don't travel long distances ?????

Heck..l'm just throwing some thoughts out there............l guess, you can find quite a few things wrong with each vehicle..and most people indicate to me, that the M-Class offers the best of all worlds......Well..maybe so....but l would to drive the Q7 for a few months and see for myself.....

You can't compare the ML with the Q7. They are in two different categories. Apples to oranges. The Q7 can be compared with the GL but not with ML. ML with Q5 maybe!

i can say...i think ALMOST as cal...the comand in ML and GL are really dated...che last CLS-E looks very good and it's user frendly like the x5 one...and surely in the new ml it will be the same...

There's no doubt Audis are nicely appointed and appear to have good build quality. But, a friend's Q5 has seen it's share of electronic issues so they're not perfect either. The Q7 just looked and felt way too big, and couldn't get over that Mack truck grill..IMO that's one ugly front end.

One thing that tipped the ML scale for me was the ability to factory order exactly what I wanted, with a decent list of special order items to make it unique...and still get the vehicle in a few weeks.

Yes, COMAND is not up to industry standards, and can be downright frustrating at times. But I'm not letting a GPS issue override all the other things I like about the ML.

Thumbs up All great points.................

As mentioned...we all have our own opinions and l respect them all. Whether a SUV has an extra set of seats, means nothing.....The GL and ML are both SUV's...Heck..the M-Class use to have seating for 7....l owned one, the 99 ML430....l can't speak for the Q5, it is only been out for what... 2 years ???? and as you guys can see, l still drive a M-Class...even though, l have the opportunity with my employee discount, to save $10-15 thousand on a Lexus RX 350...l still choose a Mercedes.....but it doesn't mean, it can't be improved on !!!!!!

VelociRaptor:

You may not be able to say but I presume the next ML will not have three rows. There was some early internet chatter about the next generation having three rows to compete with the X5, Q7, MDX etc that offer third rows (I fully appreciate that some of those examples (i.e., the X5) have truly unusable third rows). With MB offering the R and GL class with three rows, I am guessing no third row option in the ML - which would be too bad - as that is the one I would get if it had three rows . . . I would love an ML550 (or ML63) with three rows. The R is uninspiring and the GL is bigger than I would like.

Thanks
