The article is very poor in that it talks about power being "bumped up" but fails to mention at all it's because it's a completely new engine.

The 90-degree, balancer-shaft-required M272 is replaced by the 60-degree no-balancer-shaft-required M276.

And after the W164 balance shaft sproket issues that's a good thing!
