I'm wondering if there is a difference in the Canadian and the US lighting package. If indeed something like the amber colour or other detail could have some effect on the availability for build.
As an example, I know that all of our ML's in Canada have the AMG appearance, but this is limited or not available elsewhere.

I've read through all of the various posts and experiences people are having with the lighting being delayed far out and with no definate answer this is getting frustrating.

I just spoke to 2 dealers locally this morning with vehicles scheduled to be built end of January and delivered by end of March. Both of them have the Bi-Xenon package on them. They both swear up and down that they are sure they will be coming in as ordered.
This late in the game, with the build a few weeks away, wouldn't they have gotten notice by now if they would be built without the Lighting Pakage?

2012 ML350-BT on order
I spoke with two dealers as I'm currently ready to pull the trigger on a new order w/lighting. Both said the same thing which is that current orders will get processed but all new orders won't have production until May.

They're not 550s are they? Unless Canada is getting priority, I would doubt this, but I hope it happens.

No not 550's, 350 BlueTec
I'm just having a hard time believing these guys based on everything I've read on here.
Right on the sheet I got emailed it says:

ML350 BlueTEC 4MATIC, Premium Package
(Mandatory until February
production), Sport Package , Driving
Assistance Package , Bi-Xenon
Headlamp Package (Delayed
Availability - March 2012), Metallic
Paint, Brown Ash Wood Trim
(Open-Pore), Trailer Hitch, Easy-Pack
Load Securing Kit, Grey Fabric Roof
Liner, Carpet Mats, Wheel Locks...
More Options (Unable to
display)

So it lists the Bi-Xenons as Delayed Availability until March, but yet the build is still scheduled for end of January.
The way they explained it to me is that if the dealer goes into an existing changeable order and tries to choose the lighting option it will not let them or delays the build out.
But if it is an existing order that was originally ordered with the lighting package, then it is already slated for production and the description is only just showing the new updated text.

JUST LEFT DEALER (they called)
In Canada NO EXISTING ORDERS HAVE THEM only paper orders, computer has never let them be ordered till about yesterday.
My paper order was in MAY. Priority 1

FYI pano sunroof is in shortage mode supply till March-ish cancelled till June ish?

They can get me ML with Bi-Xe built end of March with May Delivery but may not get the pano roof then.

Otherwise its May build Deliver July with Bi-Xe again perhaps no Pano roof

US and Canada have different allotments and order systems but same factory.

2013 are due about Sept ordering in June so I will wait for 2013.
Then the GLK & C diesel info will be out for Canada/USA

Dealers are messing up March build with delivery. Unless 550 or AMG63 they should be out in March ish

I hope this helps you folks its obvious MBUSI didnt expect so many ML's to be so upscale optioned out. Of course for those that have not followed, this Light delay was caused by the Earthquack and Typhoon in Japan perhaps the Taiwan flood too. Price a hard drive lately? All the best gang

Delays

Dang, my order seems to be moving backward. This is getting ridiculous. I'd give up on the roof if necessary to get it by Summer.

BTW, I had inside info (posted in other thread) that the lighting delay is because of a last minute design change, not disasters.

Given that the delay appears limited only to Mercedes and that other mfr's have seen no delays with bi-xenon, that makes perfect sense.

No. My guess is it would had to have been engineering related, not aesthetics. Supposedly happened 3 months before start of production.

My 2012 european edition ML350 Bluetec, with every possible options (Edition 1, panorama, entertainment package in the rear, distronic, webasto, Harman/Kardon, hitch with 3.500kg towing capasity, Keyless-Go, ++++) is going into production next week and will be finished from the production line on the 12. of january in the morning WITH lightning package. Sadly it takes 6-8 weeks before it will be ready for delivery in Norway.
I placed my order back in August, 2011.
PS: Ordered the new SL 350 AMG before Christmas as well, and I am also considering the new A-class AMG with 360 PS and 4Matic....
It is going to be an expensive Mercedes Enthusiast year...

Found more images of the ML350 BT with the lighting package. This image was taken head-on and as you can see, the LEDs in the bumper are not illuminated. Neither are the Side amber marker lights. These don't even look like xenon bulbs to be honest, but the headlamp housing is definitely the xenon housing. Hard to say what color that amber fiber optic strip will be when customers receive their orders, especially in Canada where we have the AMG package. Who knows, maybe the color of that strip can be changed.

Yeah... those I knew about. What I'm talking about is the fiber optic strip just bellow the turn signal. The US brochure shows an amber strip... but the euro promo pics show white with a clear side marker. I know that canadian laws state that we need to have amber side markers... I just don't want the amber strip on the front of the light.

Too bad that it's still amber at night. And I also hope that it can be changed. If it can't I guess I'll be forking over some cash for the euro version.

It'll be able to be swapped...But it will have to be something done aftermarket! And honestly, this isnt a tricked out Honda Civic that should be messed with. IMO, Mercedes messed up! There is no shortage, thats all BS! They just screwed up pretty bad here.

I would think the LEDs powering the fiber optic could be switched for white ones. But if this involves unsealing the headlight unit, I'd think twice about it. When seen in person, the amber may be pretty cool. At least not anything else like it out there yet.

Yeah... I think I may wait till I see mine in person... who knows, might be better than the pictures/videos are making it look.

I saw a 2012 ML the other day at night with Dynamic Handling Package and Lighting Package in Santa Monica, CA. It had Michigan plates, so I'm guessing it was a dealer car or test drive car. Anyways, the strip was white, not amber like in the picture above. This is the second ML I have seen in person in Los Angeles with lighting package that has the white LED strip in the headlight housing.

Do you recall seeing amber side markers? If it has amber markers and a white led strip then that's good news!
