Hi all! First post here... I'm interested in the ML BlueTec but was holding off until the lighting package was available.
Now that it is, would any of you lucky owners be kind enough to take some photos of the lights at night? I am specifically interested in the spread of light on the road as well as the way the bi-xenon high beams look. I spend a lot of time on country roads and I'd like to make sure they're worth the money.
I'd also like owners' feedback on whether or not you are satisfied-especially compared to previously owned vehicles.
Some examples of shots I would appreciate would include a photo of the the cutoff of the lights against a white wall (could be a garage....) with and without the high beams on. I am primarily interested in the width of the spread and the intensity of the high beams.
Hope I'm not asking too much...

That is the output of one projector from an '05+ LS430. It's basically considered as good as it gets in terms of light intensity distribution and light spread in terms of a low-beam projector.
I understand this can be a bit of an undertaking but I don't expect the outcome to be as good as this example. It can simply be a photo of the lights on your garage as you get home from work.

Open pore wood trim
Am I correct in my belief that the open pored wood trim in the picture on the prior page is in fact Brown Satin Ash Wood Trim -- SPC H09?

I hate to go even further off topic in someone else's thread because that is really not what I came here for. To keep it short, the 2RX and 3LS have projectors that are applauded for their excellent optics and cuttoff within the automotive lighting community. They are often compared to other projectors like the E30, TSX, E55 and S2000 projectors where they are sold for retrofit. (LS isn't on that site because they are very, very difficult to get ahold of. But you can compare cutoff to the E55 projector shown on the same site) The 3GS and 2IS that you mentioned (and owned) both have inferior designs because they use "green" Xenon bulbs that have slightly less output and the bulb is positioned from the side for form factor.
I do, however believe that the way MB controls their lights is the best in the industry (i.e corning bulbs, turning low beam algorithm, adjusting beam cutoff, auto high beam...)
Again I didn't want to come here to dis anyone I just want to see what the lights offer before I place an order.

The picture above exemplifies what I hate about most modern lighting systems lately. I consider that a lighting system design failure. Really fantastic light immediately ahead of you, with very rapid fall off of light outside the central zone. It has to be that way, of course, to meet regs designed to avoid blinding oncoming drivers.
Older systems (halogens) had a much less controlled beam. The light ahead was nowhere near as good as with xenons, but the beam was less well controlled and a considerable amount of light was broadcast outside the central zone. That "uncontrolled" light enables one to see deer at the side of the road, or see the uphill side of a small dip in the road.
Currently I have 3 cars with bi-xenon, and 3 cars without. I'd rather have a well designed halogen system than a bi-xenon system that leaves me in the dark outside the central zone. All the wonderful (according to the marketing, at least) bi-xenon systems leave me totally in the dark at times with their sharp cutoffs.

I heard someone say this about the new SL's LED headlight DRL's, which are similar to the ML's.... but are they all really ORANGE?! Is that a Canada thing only? I can't imagine them using a more eye sore color at the front (we've all gone through such great lengths in American Automotive history to eliminate orange from the front of our cars, lol).

2012 ML350 BLUETEC, 2011 Audi A4 Avant
Finally picked up mine 2 days ago (4/5). Proposed build-date was March 25th but was way ahead of schedule.
For HIDs I've noticed Euro ones are much brighter and covers the road better. Both my Audi B8 Avant, and the ML are lighting up the road like day time. And the adaptive and self levelling feature on the ML are super nice as well.
