How to they attach?

they look good. I remember they were pricey though for what it is. How much?

These chrome hood fins are a genuine Mercedes accessory for the 2012 ML350. I bought them on ebay which is much cheaper than the dealership which was charging list price and installation on top. They recommend also purchasing the Mercedes glue for this item which is this black tar like substance. The ebay purchase included the glue which you have to buy separate if you purchased it at a dealership as well. It was very easy to install. The glue got a little tacky after a while and I suggest wearing rubber gloves to apply because you'd need some pretty strong solvents to remove the black off your hands. If anyone is interested here is the ebay link to the purchase the same item.

So does anyone know if the Benz part is painted? How is the quality of these? Do you see them fading under the elements?

I am not looking to buy however, it may be useful to other members.

I think the chrome hood fins as a factory installed option is about $100. This item on ebay sells for $200 and we have to install it ourselves? I don't think this is a good buy.

A fine point, but I believe all "accessories" are dealer-installed.

I bought these from the dealer and love the look. My dealer did not install. Actually I don't think they install any accessories unless you make an appointment. If you need to have the dealer install then that is sad. One thing though...the parts department did not mention anything about the glue. I used the double sided tape that came with them and it worked great. Not like the crap on the mud flaps. I tested pulling them off and they didn't budge.

I am ordering them from the dealer on the same invoice and will bargain the bottom line when my configuration is completed. By the way, I installed the Wood Fins and Door Handle Inserts (Cups) on my ML-500 on December 2005. They still look great. The Door Cups are excellent nails savers for the ladies.

IMHO, think $200 is way too much for 6 little shiny pieces of metal. Gotta be something else better than to blow $200 on.

Alternatively, can you paint orig fins in chrome?

When I bought mine, there were two options: Chrome Plated Steel made by Schätz, or ABS Plastic made in Japan at half price. Schätz will ship them with a silicone/rubber glue. The ABS plastic came with double adhesive tape. Both are identical and hold firm on the fins under high pressured water.

Yes they are plastic and the MB glue is recommended but not required. $200 to some might be too much to pay, that's fine but it's all relative ...I'm very happy with the look of my car with them so it's well worth it for me.

Now $800 chrome plated toilet seats at the Pentagon doesn't sound too expensive...
