Electric Park and HOLD function --Aren't they the same?

I've been doing some testing and they both work the same, or am I missing something. Both release when you touch the accelerator peddle and I guess it would be a little easier when you come to a stop on a hill to just hit the park button.

I understand the HOLD works electronically on the hydraulics, whereas the Electric Park uses an electric motor to wind on the traditional cable operated drum brake in the rear discs.

The brake lights remains on when HOLD is active, I don't think it is the same when PARK is engaged.

From what I remember car brake systems are required to have a back up system. Hence the cable back up for the hydraulic system. The cable system also does double duty as the parking brake.

As for the "HOLD" feature. I use it all the time and love it. As for the parking brake, I have never tried it.

this is the correct answer

and yes the brake lights are linked to HOLD not to PARK.

Yes, drum. Parking brakes are independent of the operating brakes and are drums.

For those that mentioned they have never used their parking brake - you should. In fact it should be engaged before you shift the transmission to park so as to prevent undue stress on the gearbox internals. Or so I've been told.

Just sayin'!

However... something new?

Have you ever tried the P brake while in D? try it.... the brake pulses a little. also i dont think there is space in the rear rotor for a "drum." Might be a separate mechanical piston activation?

Where are the experts>?>

1) not a personal attack at you sir/ma'am

if it were so COMMON... this thread would not exist.

negative and defensive reaction to some-one asking for proof speaks to a level of insecurity, this is the reason asia and south america are dominating us in academia. people get offended when asked for proof here in our western mc'D society.

lastly, if it truly were a completely independent system then the application of the P brake while in D would not give the driver a pump feedback on the brake pedal.

please lets not start a pissing contest here... only wish to get facts as I was taught in the service. "if you are going to point the gun you better be willing to pull the trigger" which translates civilian to "If you are going to propose or say something be sure to be able to defend it."

cheers
i'd buy you a beer and we can ***** about this over chicken wings. no hard feelings sir/ma'am
