My wife was a driveway away from the gas station when she ran out of diesel. The gas station guy helped her put diesel in a gas can and put it in the ML. She then was able to start it and fill it up the rest of the way.

It seems to run totally normal but the check engine light has come on. Will it go out own its own or will we need to take it in to get it reset?

My guess is that it will go out on its own. It will more than likely stay in memory but the light will go out.
