Second row pass-thru

Can someone with this option take a picture and post? Deciding if I should order this option or not.

something else to make noise down the road....and how often would we really use it when we can just drop one seat or go over the top. Its about half the roof rack bar cost $$$ better spent perhaps. I wanted it but in Canada its not available but the questions I raised hit me to say not needed

Not my car, but here's a photo:

I have to disagree.
I definitely would want it if it were available here.
It is most useful for skis. Yes, you can flip a chair down, but have you sat in the middle seat for any prolonged period of time? Definitely not very comfortable. And I much prefer to carry the skis using the through load than on the roof rack.
Sadly not available here.

Seems like it'd be great for roadtrips with four people. The people in the back can easily grab some stuff from the trunk (such as food, beverages, electronics) that are stored in the trunk without taking up space in the seating area.

I remember seeing it on the options list and being unsure, so I declined. I'm rethinking since I'm still able to change. How much is this again (in the US)?

That was my thought but would you put dirty wet skis (only 1 maybe 2pr) over nice leather? Roof rack no????
My 2 cents. Guess experience here tells them it not big enough for much and is mostly novelty. Usually 4 of us would ski however if the purpose was only for skis why bother Rack allows luggage and WINE BEER FOOD for the chalet. Rack em UP baby LOL

The cost is $160 in the US. I agree with dougiebear thou, I probably won't use it because to protect the leather I would just fold down the seat or use the roof rack. This is more useful in cars to access the truck. In the ML, you would just go over the seat.

Thanks for the pic thou. I think the hole is too small for practical use. In my mind before, I was picturing something like the second row in the R-class where you can walk to the back.

Good for carrying a few 8' 2Xs from Home Depot without messing with a rack.

However you must be prepared, as the trap door in the luggage compartment ( not shown in the pic) would have to be opened before you left, as it cannot be opened from the passenger compartment. Regardless, this is an excellent application.

Guys come on LOL if ur 6 u might be able to reach something. Would it not be more mormal to reach over top of the seat?????
My guess stuff back there is in a cooler or box or bag or held to the side by a strap or net. Highly unlikely anything of value will be nicely sitting there. I used to think like that but it NEVER works that way. Where would u keep electronics now? Trunk nope hatch not yet? More useful to hide crap quickly :-)had them for years and pretty much useless. Map and door pockets? PRICELESS hahaha

I have been known to organize the load. And yes I have been told I have not organized it well enough!

Trunk pass through

Actually, the trunk pass through is available to be ordered in Canada....
I have an 2012 ML550, and had to ask my dealer to include the option code when i ordered it....
The code is # 282 for the trunk pass through...
I find it invaluable, to put hockey sticks through etc, rather than large objects resting against the top of the rear seat backs, hitting the roof, or partially obstructing your rear vision....

Well that's why you'd obviously put those items you want in that area before you leave...

You know not everyone roadtrips with 6ft tall people in the back. It's a lot easier for the kiddies and shorter people to just reach through the hole.

I'm speaking from experience because our R has the two bucket seats in the second row with a console. So essentially we have this "pass through" 100% of the time. It's very convenient to stick some food and the wastebag right behind the armrest and it's so easy to reach. It'd be much easier than reaching over the top of the seat where you can't see what you're grabbing.

Checked with my dealership, they could not find the code in their computer, so they said that it could not be ordered.

Is this a special order? Or is it possible to order an option not on the list in their computer?
Could it be dealer installed?

Some things I believe can be done by the good folks at MBC in Markham. They did that approving my double brown ML. Like our friend Greg in OR said anything can be done after but at a price. So NO :-)

I wanted the passthru so bad but after analizing and looking at the cargo area so not worth it in the end. However if anyone does get it, the cargo pkg is the way to get most use of it by keeping junk In the trunk forward. Get both is smart

Yes, it is a Special Order option. It may not be on the standard list, but should be available. Be aware that there is a one-time surcharge to order any number of SO options.

It may be a special order item in the states, but in other markets it is a standard item.
