Ipod/USB ports dont charge!!! Arrghhhh!
The great slick ports in the center console wont charge anything!!! Pretty frustrating to plug in your phone to play music and it dies!!!! Whoops!!! Not so slick!!
BTW- my kids Kia Soul's port charges and plays music!!!

Yes - Thats really sad that MB cannot provide with their latest 2012/2013 ML350
I spoked to the service manager and he said there is nothing available from MB that can be ordered to fix that - Not satisfactory for such a minor problem - So I went to applestore and bought the TYLT Dual USB Car Charger - Solved!
Such a simple interface MB cannot provide and even the smallest KIA Rio USB can charge an iphone 4s -

Seriously?! Wow, both the rental Chevy Malabu and the rental Infiniti fx37 I drove this week charged my iPhone 4S just fine from their USB ports...
Since I don't have my new ML yet, I can't comment - but I'm already thinking there must be a solution to be able to charge and play music at the same time. I see that some others have already found hacks for power injection into a USB signal, for example here is a nice schematic where someone got their phone to charge and support OTG (Android data) at the same time: https://sites.google.com/site/sonicb...g-and-charging
I'm thinking that paired with a nice cigarette > 5V adaptor (like robinleong mentioned above) this might actually work. I'll be back in a few weeks if needed to report if it works!

Are you sure?? I have the cable that came with the car which charges my Wife's IPhone 4S and I tried the USB port for my IPhone 5 with the lightening cable and that was charging too..

im going to take it in and have it checked out!!! the 2 connectors are lovely!!! For them not to charge and haveto use a cig. plug is a joke!!!

Factory ordered 2012 MB C350 w/Dynamic Handling Package
The MB cable is designed to charge...while the USB port does not.

Reading through the posts was helpful. The USB, having read this post, clearly for data transfer only. They did not provide enough current to charge the device. A frustrating realization that I would never have guessed.
My cable for the phone does charge... when it works. It is a never ending unreliable experience. The cable clearly needs replacing. Something else I was able to deduce having read these posts.
Finally, these are questions I’ve had for a couple of years. Even the service folks at Mercedes were not able to answer my questions!
So, thank you. I hope sharing my experience with the next 2014 E350 owner helps.

the Mercedes USB power is punny max 0.5 A. Not enough to charge even a 1990’s phone.
what to do when no power at all on the USB port? Replace fuse? Reset command or just out of luck?
