Chrome on Back bumper ML350
The nice shiny chrome bit on the back bumper has peeled off a layer , ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
Is this some protective plastic layer and I take it all off or is this a defect ?

Is it still chrome under the peel? Then I'm sure it's just protective for shipping. Otherwise, there's problem. Sounds like it is chrome under peel because I expect you wou'd have told us if it wasn't.

Yes still Chrome and Shiny , I think it is some sort of lacquer/plastic layer but am afraid to remove/scratch/peel if off in case it is not and I make it worse ...After all the car is the love of my life ! (I am glade my wife does not read the forum) Some times I feel she is a bit jealous of the car!!

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is in order to let them verify. If the plastic is a thick sticky layer, has a slight blue tint and clings back to the chrome when rubbed back down it may be a protective covering that should have been removed before delivery. If this is a very thin almost cellophane material that is crinkly then it is most likely the protective film that is meant to stay adhered to the chromed plastic covering.
FWIW - We have been looking at the new ML's for a few weeks and I haven't seen one yet with the plastic still on this area in the lots.

I drive a 2013 ML350
Plastic
Yes, it is very hard to detect, and most of the time gets missed in detail before delivery. I usually leave it on for further protection until it starts peeling, then off it comes with a hairdryer and patience.

Thanks Guys!
It is sorted .I was panicking for no good reason. It was adhesive/glue from the plastic protection that was removed by the garage , Some its were left.I just used a bit of petrol on a cloth and it cleared it off.

That sounds like a horrible idea. Its a chrome painted piece of plastic. Don't use solvents on it. If I could go back and do it again. I would likely put a clear plastic wrap over it. Its already scratched from putting equipment in and out of the trunk.

Not much one can do to protect the chrome .It looks nice now that it is new , I am sure it will get scratched pretty bad .Putting a clear wrap cover will make it look worse but better for the person when you sell the car.I might as well enjoy it and let the second owner have it scratched
