Extended warranty and tire/rim protection

Hi everyone

My new 2013 ml350 is at the dealer. My biggest question is on the Tire and Wheel Protection, do I really need it? Is it worth? And how much should I pay for the extended warranty?

Thanks

Lots of opinions on this one. I personally think the tire / wheel insurance is a bit of a scam. The fine print is pretty limiting and can't say that I've ever needed it if I did have it. Same to be said for the paint protection, interior protection and "Lo-Jack" offerings. We just closed on our ML and I passed on them all. Think the extended warranty might make sense if you have a highly optioned vehicle (airmatic especially) and plan to keep well beyond the 4 / 50,000 warranty. Our dealer tried to push the 5/100,000 for $2999 or the 7 / 100,000 for $2999. If I have issues with the car during the 4 / 50,000 warranty I will most likely trade it prior to the expiration. YRMV

I have a 2008 GL550 and have both tire/rim protection and extended warranty. I recommend them both especially the extended warranty. I have used both and 1 time use pays for the tire/rim warranty.

A gaggle of MB's
Well, opinions aren't facts....

The Mercedes extended warranty (ELW) makes sense to consider at time of sale, if at time of sale its' your intention exceed the 4yr/50K new car warranty by time or by miles.

The point-of-sale cost of the extended warranty can either be paid "up front" or financed as part of the purchase price. If you choose to trade early, and before hitting the extended warranty, then 100% of the paid extended warranty cost is 100% refundable - if paid 100% upfront tne you get back 100% - if you have financed, and 50% of the car is paid by time of trade - then you get 50% of the warranty back.

On wheel/tire coverage - that depends on what type of wheel/tire damage you have encountered with your other cars in the past, also understanding new car tires do NOT come with tire manufacturers Road Hazard coverage.

That is part of the facts - and for many people MB additional coverages can be valuable coverage - depending on your personal specific circumstance.

Keep the beat !
