Extended Waranty
The sheet price at time of purchase (or within 30 days of purchase) is $2899/$4389/$5249 for 7 years and 75K/100K/125K miles respectively - you are free to quote/purchase Mercedes ELW from any Mercedes dealer and some members have found quote/purchase from another MB dealer can be more cost effective than originating dealer.
After 30 days past point-of-purchase and up to the point mileage or time the new car warranty has yet to expire - there is a sheet price increase of 15% on purchase cost.
ELW is NOT available if new car warranty has expired by time/mileage.
That said - Mercedes ELW is 100% refundable for any reason including if your ML is traded/sold before original 4yr/50K new car warranty expires - meaning 100% refundable before you hit the ELW coverage - and/or remaining new car warranty and/or remaining ELW is transferable to new owner if your ML350 is sold private party.
If you hit ELW, and then for any reason including the ML is sold/traded, then potential refund is pro-rated by remaining time/mileage LESS any paid ELW claims up to point of resale/trade.
Hope this helped - keep the beat !
Thanks in advance.
If financed - and you ask for refund prior to the note being paid off - any ELW refund goes back to the note holder.
Some buyers choose to reduce down payment by corresponding amount to pay ELW out-of-pocket - then any future refund request goes straight back to buyer - when future trading in the vehicle before exceeding new car warranty - you can request the ELW about 30-45 days prior to trade-in and have ELW cash from refund to help you with next vehicle purchase.
Not trying to direct you one way or another - whatever direction is best for you !
It's your decision..
IMO, airmatic seems to the biggest issue in later years. If you don't have that, then I think the odds get low after 4 years of warranty that you'll get into any major trouble.

When my W164 was approaching 3 years, I contacted the dealer (service dept) and was told "extended warranties should be arranged at the time of taking delivery of a new car, so sorry we cannot help".
Then some time later, when trying to sell it privately, I googled "extended warranty australia", and was pleased to find a number of entries coming up. I found one which offered either one or three year terms at reasonable rates. (Sorry but I have deleted the email so I cannot rememver the cost or the company.)
Then when I picked up the W166, I asked about extended warranty, and was told by the salesman, "no problems, but its best to wait until the three years are almost up!"
Go figure

I have been asking about this for years. My dealer has always just said "sorry MB don't do extended warranties" on every occassion. So Ian what you say is interesting. I wonder if your SA was referring to a genuine MB extended warranty though. I recall you telling me you purchased yours through Berwick. Any chance I can have the SA's name please?
I have spoken with my insurance broker about this (he drives a ML as well!) and he said there is cover avaiable but it's through Alliance and it of course isn't a full MB warranty so there's a bit of stuff still not covered. He also advised me to not worry about it until close to the expiration of the factory warranty, so I haven't bothered to see the PDS for that policy as yet.
Argh ... another black mark against MB in my book. They're certainly adding up.
