Question about new car hand over

Hi All,

I am from Sydney Australia. Yesterday I went to my local dealership to pick up my new ML350 bluetec. Here is my experience after I paid and signed hand over document:

1. I discovered some scratch on the right bumper of my new car. That particular body part is loose. it can be easily moved forward and backwards.

I drive my car back to the dealer. They admitted their fault during the transport and asked me to leave my car with them. They promised that I can have my car back by tomorrow without notice anything.

2. During the time I drive the car back to the dealer, I discovered that I don't have the mb-tex dash. At the time when I order this car, I were told mb-tex dash is a standard option for any 2013 model ordered in Australia. All the ML350 I test drove come with mb-tex dash either.

I called dealer and was told any build after JULY 2013 will be MY2014 model. my build date is 13 Aug 2013. MY2014 model mb-tex dash is an option to order.

Questions:
1. As a customer has being waited for 5 months for this new car, can I do anything about the repair works caused by the dealer? Will this repair job damage the resale price in the future?

2. I seriously liked and wanted mb-tex dash. Dealer never told me my new car will lose mb-tex dash during the waiting period. I don't even have the choice to pay extra to get this option. I will be very happy to pay extra $1000 AUD if they told me so. Is it fair?

3. Since I already paid full mount, can I still do anything about it?

Hope you guys could give me some ideas. I am planning to raise this with them when i go pick up my car tomorrow.

If they do the scratch mending properly, you shouldn't have any resale issues.

As for your dash, that is on you. You should've checked the car out thoroughly before taking delivery. The best you can do is ask for some free oil changes for the mix-up. Depending on who you speak to at the dealer and how much they want to make you happy that will determine what they give you. Try to speak to the General Manager (or whatever titles they use in kangaroo land.) Good luck.

Regarding the dash, it would also be worth a call to the ACCC.
They may insist you file a claim but usually they will advise if you stand a chance. I expect you would because it is listed as standard on the ML350 in the current specs on the web, which was updated in May ready for the July 2013 production run.

I have now studied the new brochure closely.

The Artico leather dash with beltlines and door panels, is definitely standard on the ML350, ML350Bluetec, ML500 & ML63 as option U09.

But the difference is they now list in fine print:- "Rebate applicable if deselected."

Of course the dealer can argue he applied the rebate to reduce your bargained price.
But you were not advised at the time, I wonder what the lawyers would say?

And for those who order the ML250 with the EX1 pack, I wonder what they would say when this U09 feature was deleted from the pack !!!

The Artico wrapped Dashboard is now definitely now a A$1000 options for ML after July 2013. I picked up my ML350BT and was surprised to see that the dash is not Artico wrapped.

I called the dealer and she emailed me the latest pricelist as 'proof'.

I was regretful for about 2 day, and learnt to get over it. I don't see it as a problem any more. And frankly, I won't want to pay $1000 for something that don't add to the driving function of the car.

Apparently, it has to do with supply issue, and MB Aus in their wisdom has decided to delete the item and drop the price by $1000, however, I don't have the pre-July 2013 and post-July RRP prices to check the veracity of what the dealer told me.

Unfortunately, the specification sheet on the Australian Mercedes web site has not been updated and that is causing unnecessary confusion and anguish for customers.
