Drove off dealer lot, "Check Brake Pad Wear" light came on
I just picked up my new 2014 ML350 two days ago on Tue. I am brand new to the Mercedes brand and was so excited to get this car.
I drove off the lot, drove home, turned on the car again when my husband got home that night and immediately the "Check Brake Pad Wear" light came on. Called Mercedes, they had me bring it in the next day (yesterday). I drove it on several errands before bringing it back to the dealer and the light came on repeatedly. Mercedes thought it was just a faulty sensor since obviously, all the brake pads are brand new.
Left the car w/the dealer for several hours. Mike/tech calls me and claims the light never turned on for them, and the computer didn't store any record of it turning on (I had taken a picture with my cell phone which I then e-mailed to him). He said they replaced all 4 sensors and they felt my car was good to go.
Now today, the next day, the light came on again and has shown up every time I start the car, and while I'm driving.
I am really NOT happy to have a BRAND spankin' new car, esp a Mercedes, and it's going back into the shop for the second time in 3 days!! Please tell me this is not what these cars are like!
Any ideas what the problem is, anyone?? I'm really disappointed to have 60 miles on the car and have this be happening, and the dealer doesn't know what the problem is!
I'm sure they'll get it sorted out.
I would say that this happened to me about 25% of the time when I owned a Benz and took it in for some kind of issue. It's not just MB either, my SO's Mini Cooper got sent back twice when they couldn't find a water leak even though water was pooled around the battery from their tests.
Update: I brought the car back into the shop this morning as the light turned on twice in about a 10 min span of bringing my daughter to preschool. Brought it to the dealer with the light still on. Turns out there was a "loose ground connection under the rear carpet," and apparently that was triggering the brake pad light. The guy who dropped the car back off at our house showed my husband a picture on his cell phone of the loose bolt.
Hopefully, this fixes this problem and I don't still have the light show up again tomorrow!
