Changing ML350 (W166) Cabin dust and air filters

The filters are made by micronAir, you will need:
166-830-03-18 - Cabin Air Filter set (includes 2 filters)
166-830-02-18 - Cabin Dust filter

The instructions say to replace the dust filter from the engine compartment and the cabin filters by removing the glove box, I did it all from the engine compartment. Took about 10 minutes.

1. From the engine compartment, remove the grill that covers the air intake plenum. It is located at the base of the windshield on the passenger side (US LHD cars).
2. Remove the plenum by unlatching the 3 clips at the top and pull it straight up. You will be looking at the dust filter.
3. Pull the dust filter out.
4. Behind the dust filter you will see 2 cabin filters. These are made to slide out from the front of their compartment toward the underside of the dash (by removing the glove box), but they will come out through the engine compartment. They are very stiff and will need some extra "persuasion" to come out, but they do come out. I didn't worry about bending them since they were going in the trash.
5. The replacement filters are more pliable and can be compressed like an accordion and go back in easily.
6. Replace the dust filter, intake plenum and grill.

Hey my vehicle just hit 8500 miles and just did my first oil change. Was curious what mileage the air filter and cabin filter needs to be changed. Also should I be doing any other maintenance anytime soon, thanks for helping out a noob.

Thanks, I just ordered the cabin filter(s) from Filterheads, $15. This method is much better than taking apart the glove box. Will try it as soon as the filters get here.

2 separate filters

Does the driver and passenger each have their own cabin filter in their duct. The reason I ask is because my ML had a strange odor coming from the passenger side only and I'm wondering if it was the cabin filter causing it. The odor is not mildew. It's more of a perfume stink. It had it when it was brand new.
