Installing an additional LED light Bar/driving lights ML W166

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to wire an additional LED bar(or any additional driving lights) to be activated by high/main beam where the car has the intelligent light system installed. I have been informed that because of canbus it cannot be done. Any advice would be appreciated.

Easy. Run fused battery power to a relay. You can get this from the positive terminal under the hood. Trigger the relay from power patched from the high beam. Power the lights from the relay.
Power drawn to trigger the relay is minimal and not recognised by the canbus.
The hardest part is finding the high beam wiring.

Are you sure?
What you say would be 100% correct for 99% of th cars on the road. But the W166 HID lights do not have a second globe, just a tilting reflector. This is somehow computer controlled and not neccessarily by turning a switch and sending power down a wire.

If someone can correct me, then please feel free.

You might be right. There must be somewhere to pick up trigger power though.....perhaps the high beam indicator light. Remember I did say it would be the hardest part of the job. The tilting reflector must also be powered and could be a trigger source.
