2012 Picked up this weekend ..

13,100 miles, black on black w most options minus keyless go and the parking, lane, cruise control things ..

Great looking ride and the wife loves it!

Anything in particular I should check into?

Carfax shows the latest A Maint done in March and the car has been flawless so far.

Items looking into: Running Boards, Rubber Mats, and somehow a nav bypass.

Also want the wood steering wheel.

Thanks in advance and have a good week.

A gaggle of MB's
1) Adding running boards a real pain - unless you can find a set being sold by a forum memnber - for W166 about MB $1400 for parts alone

2) "Rubber mats" either Weathertech or Weathertech/with-MB logo from dealer

3) Nav bypass - please describe - or check Mid City Engineering

4) Wood/leather wheel - MB only as accessory will be about $1100 for the part - then 3 technical hours for removal/reinstall - experienced dealer tech can do in 1 hr

You can order the running boards here, but my MB Dealer won't install them for "liability reasons". Interesting that all the ML models they stock have them, but if they get one in on a trade without them, they won't install them.

I bought a 2012 new and also love the vehicle - best I've ever owned. Depending on where you live the best steering wheel is the heated one. I live in Texas and never thought I would use it but on the cold days like today it is heaven (I hate wearing gloves to drive!). Think twice about installing running boards. I don't like mine because they are too narrow to step on and you have to climb over them getting in and out. If you have kids they might be worth it otherwise stay away from them.

If you bought your car from an individual, the floor mats may be the original, all weather ones from MB. If that is the case, you can get the Weathertechs for free from the dealer because there was a safety recall on the original 2012 mats. I took a look at the Weathertech mats at the dealer and did not like them as well as the original so I just kept them because the recall was not really needed (check the search box on this and you'll learn about it). However, a lot of people prefer the Weathertechs.

One word of caution on this model. After you set the hatch to open up to a set stop point, do not manually try to close it. It will screw up the memory and you will have to eventually replace the right hatch shock. Open the hatch with the remote or inside cabin button on the driver's door and only close it with either the remote or the button on the hatch itself, never by hand if you have set a stop point. Good luck and happy driving!

Thanks for the replies.

I have read mixed reviews about the running boards.. seems like they look good but are pretty much useless.

Regarding the Nav Bypass .. every car I have owned there was a code or button sequence that would allow you to bypass the nav lockout when driving (IE enter a destination, etc while on the move) .. I am assuming there is one floating around here but have not found it.

Ours does not have a heated steering wheel but we are going to swap out for wood .. is heated something that can be added at that time (pre wired?) or is it during the build?

Only issue I have found:

1. sometimes when put in reverse and not moving there is a vibration from the back, almost like a helicopter noise
2. The driver side seat belt hinge (up by your left ear) squeeks while driving

I've got 30 months of warranty left so I will eventually have those looked at.

I nice bonus was just how quick this car is .. you can get a little taste on a test drive but after a few days you can really feel it.

Thanks again,
