European safety standards

European safety standards for Pedestrians is what has screwed up the front end of the Mercedes line of cars.

http://www.safetyresearch.net/2005/0...an-pedestrian/ Just google European Pedestrian Safety Standards and you'll get a lot of hits.

Personally I'm against 'em. Much like telling me knock off wire wheels were a safety problem because the ears on the knock offs would harm a pedestrian. Bull.

That standard really screwed up the front of the SL's and the E350/550's.

I've heard that as well, but then I have to ask this question: what about the Porsche 911 & Boxster? The noses on those cars are much more streamlined, so why must the SL be so upright and blunt? Can someone explain this to me?

Jaguar XK solution to the law

http://www.popsci.com/12-gauge-shotg...xplodes-safety

This is how Jaguar Addressed the problem. See url above.

That said, the law is absurd imho. About as absurd as outlawing knock off wheel nuts on wire wheels deades ago. Anybody standing that near a knockoff had a lot more to worry about than getting hit by the ears of the knockoff. Plainly put: STUPID laws. Or BEYOND STUPID LAWS.

Exclamation New Spy Photos

http://indianautosblog.com/2014/01/2...t-spied-111466

Back in December last year, we had reported that Mercedes-Benz commenced road tests of the 2015 M Class facelift in Europe. World Scoop member, ‘stephane29′ has now posted these spy pictures of a camouflaged M Class while it was testing in Germany.

Based on the camouflage, it seems that the refreshed M Class will sport a new headlight design and a redone front bumper and grille. There seem to be no visible changes to the doors and body panels of the SUV.
In one of the images, you can also spot a BMW X3 in front of the M Class. Mercedes may be using the X3 (a key rival to the M Class and one that is heading for a facelift itself) as a benchmark vehicle to compare performance stats with the M.

The current M Class, the third generation model, was launched in 2011. It has been well over two years since the M Class was launched and hence we expect to see the refreshed model launch later this year as a 2015 M Class.
Mercedes India began sales of the new M Class in May 2012 (with CBU imports) but local production did not begin before October 2012.

We also expect to see the same set of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines on the M Class, though engineers may have optimized them for better efficiency. Mercedes could also choose to use their new ZF-developed 9-speed automatic transmission on the refreshed M Class.

Very true, they do set the HP and torque ratings lower than they really are. Ex. In MotorTrend's test video they tested the E63 AMG S-Model which was said to have 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque -- when MotorTrend Dyno'd it, they discovered that it had 676 hp and 636 lb-ft of torque (I believe those were the exact numbers when accounting for a 20% drivetrain loss, but if not it's somewhere around there).

I know for sure that my GL must have more than 406 lb-ft of torque.

I reached out to MB about this on IG, and I belive they replied that they were "modest."

But they definitely under-report their numbers.

Great paint job. Arctic camo, now if they just offered it in both desert and forest camo.
