2004 ml500
2012 reliability

Hey guys I own a 2004 ml500 and am looking to get a 2012 ml350. How's the reliability on this one and what are the must have options - looking at one with 25000 miles and the premium one package

ml350
My 2012 ML350 has 82k miles on it. I got delivery of it in November, 2011. It's 4matic with premium package 2. Overall I've been very very happy with the car. The only issues I had were that I needed new engine mounts AND a radiator when I had 50k miles. They were covered under warranty. I was a bit surprised that the radiator had a crack in it at only 50k and needed replacement. I also had some software issues early on that were corrected with updates. Of course I had to do standard maintenance over the years including new tires and new brake pads. Another small thing is that I have MBTex and there's a small hole on the drivers seat. But the car still drives and handles like it was brand new.

As for must have options - the Harmon Kardon sound system definitely!! It's amazing. I also have blind spot assist. This is an extremely great system when changing lanes. I wouldn't get another car without it.

I have a 2012 ML350 I bought new in May 2012 and now has 21,000 miles. One side view mirror had a small stress crack and was replaced. The only other problem was the rear hatch would not shut properly and the right hatch shock was replaced with no problems since. Other than those minor problems (both repaired under warranty) the car has been flawless. Options I have that I would order again are the Diamond White paint (best white in the auto universe); lighting package (absolutely necessary for the country road driving I do, but totally unnecessary if you drive mostly in the city); heated steering wheel (I love it even in Texas!); package 2, mostly for the upgraded stereo; and lane assist, which I think is very important. An option I don't like are the side rails - they are too small to step on but just wide enough to get your pants dirty as you step over them. If you have small kids that may be another matter but I would not order them again just for myself. An option I would like to have ordered was the trailer hitch package. Even if I don't trailer that much at least I could when the need arose. Also, they say the hitch assembly beefs up the rear end and helps protect you in a collision.

A radiator replaced? That's funny..... my last three ML's all had to have new radiators by 50K miles. Maybe there's a MB issue?

Thanks for all the comments all I think I'll definately go for a prem 2 and dia white

Interestingly enough I had radiator issues with my current ml500 right around 40k.
