ROLLING BACK IN PARK

Guys is it normal for my 2013 ML350 Bluetec to roll or creep a bit when placed in park on a flat surface?

yes it is. The Park locks the gearbox. However there is still a little bit of play in between the gearbox lock and the wheels. This play is what allows a little bit of creep while on park.

This is why you apply the parking brake prior to putting the vehicle into park. It keeps the creep from putting pressure on the parking pawl in your transmission.

When parking on a hill apply the parking brake, put the car in neutral and let it settle on the brake, then put it in park. I don't know if it prolongs the life of the transmission, but typically makes that transition to D a little gentler.

Yep, if not you will hear a "POP" when the paw retracts. I am sure it will save on something wearing.
