ML350 wiper speed

we have a2014 ML350 and the wipers seem to have a mind of their own no matter what "speed" you have selected. If set to intermittent, it will speed up if it starts raining harder and also the speed appears to change with the speed of the vehicle. Whatever it is I dont like it and would like know if theres a way to disable the gee-wizz part and just make the wipers stay at a consistant speed?

Thanks

So don't use the "auto" wiper position.
First click. Auto
Second click. Manual.

Personally, I love the auto wiper function.

I had the same problem and when on AUTO my wipers would go almost max speed with hardly a mist on the wind screen. Sometimes their operation made no sense. I think it is a sensor problem.

I resorted to manual or kept punching the button on the end of the control.

Sorry, but I do not see where is the manual mode. Here is what comes from the owner manual:

Combination switch
1 Windshield wiper off
2 Intermittent wipe, low (rain sensor set to low sensitivity)
3 Intermittent wipe, high (rain sensor set to high sensitivity)
4 Continuous wipe, slow
5 Continuous wipe, fast

And it is exactly how it works. How to switch to manual?
Thank you

4 and 5 are timed interval wipes. You must "manually" turn off from either of those positions in the rain or they will wipe forever. 1 and 2 are NOT "intermittent" per se like most American cars, but rather they are rain sensitive... the pause interval and speed of the wipes are dependent on amount of drops falling on the "electric eye" facing the windshield from inside the glass.

I agree though that some times the wipers speed up to a hysterical speed that is not really warranted even in heavier rainstorms, as the wiper arms themselves become a driving distraction careening back and forth. If that happens to me, I switch to position 4 instead of 1 for a while.

As Barry says.......
Position 4 is manual on
Position 2 set to low sensitivity works very well for me and never has had fast action.

rain sensitive intermittent wipers

i have a 2015 ml350 and the rain sensitive wiper settings make no sense to me either. at either speed they always go super fast. regardless of how much its raining. one day i had them on in the fog and they were going super fast. another day i tried to see what would happen when i used the windshield washer. with that little amount of water they were super fast. it's a useless setting for me. i was going to bring it back to Mercedes to see if they could fix it but from the posts here it seems it's not likely.
