Diesel pump nozzles

Anyone find that some diesel gas nozzles are too large to fit into the fuel filler neck. I just purchased my first diesel. I did not need to fill up, had a little more than half a tank but deceided to stop as the price was right. I was in rural north east Pa and stopped at an Exxon Mobile. Just so happened that a gentleman in a GL diesel was in front of me. He walked towards me and said, the nozzles are too big. Never figured that the nozzles would be a different size but maybe it was on purpose so as to prevent someone from putting diesel in their non diesel cars. I eventually filled up at another Exxon mobile station with no problem.

Diesel nozzles are larger than gas nozzles for the reason you mention, but there are even larger nozzles for use by large trucks which is probably what you ran into. You should get one of these for $10 and keep in your trunk...I've never had to use mine, but good to have.

Yes, this is what I did run into. The much larger nozzle for trailer trucks. Thanks for the info. I will get one of these just in case.

The larger nozzles are usually the high flow pumps, used by the big trucks filling tanks a lot larger then our 20 something gallon tanks. I've found generally on the opposite side of the pump are the nozzles for cars. You'll get used to which station has the right one on which side.
