Have found this

front: new 36mm
wear limit 34mm

rear: new 26mm
wear limit 24mm

2mm certainly doesn't sound like much...I've heard MB has little tolerance for replacing rotors...now I can see why

I've found that BMW & Mercedes both usually want the rotors replaced at same time as pads. Was explained that when replacing the 1st set of pads, the rotors may still be within spec, but during the life of the 2nd set of pads, the rotors can wear down down to below spec.

Sounds like a costly proposition

I've found that BMW and Mercedes dealers want rotors replaced with every pad change. This is ridiculous. If the rotors are more than minimum spec when the pads are replaced, you're good to go. The tolerances are there with considerable margin for safety to take into account rotor wear.

If pressed on this, the dealers will usually say you may get some vibration or noise if you don't change the rotors every time. Never found that to be a problem, and I frequently change pads and rotors in my German cars. I almost find that changing rotors every other pad change works well, and my rotors are always still above minimum spec.

Did you machine/turn your rotors if you didn't replace them? I agree with you, if the rotors are above spec, than they should be turned. No use buying new rotors at every brake pad change. Brake pads are meant to be a wearable part - like tires. I don't believe rotors fall into that category.
