Lighting kit for running boards

What is everyone's opinion on the lighting kit for the running boards? Are they worth it when ordering or buying? Any better aftermarket boards? I bought amp power steps for my current vehicle and installed long strips of LED lights.

I personally think the lights are a little too noticeable / stick out too much but I do like the idea. Has anyone every tried tinting the light lenses to make them blend in with the car a little better? Or does anyone know if you can even remove the lenses and even try to do it? How do you change the bulbs if needed? Is there any room or a place to add small LED light strip instead of the MB lighting kit?
Thanks

We just bought a 2013 ML350 with the running board LED lighting package and they look great. We noticed that one of the LEDs just went out so after 30 minutes of searching online for a replacement with no success, off to the dealer I went. They exhausted their search for the LED replacements and had to call Mercedes. They were told that the only way to get the LED is through ordering an entire new kit for $625. Unacceptable!! I did notice online that these light kits are covered so now I am waiting to hear back from dealer on warranty coverage. Ugh. When out of warranty I guess you'll have to buy an entire kit to replace one LED.

If this is true, I'm glad I didn't order them and when mine gets here I'll look at adding the same small strips LEDs that I put on my current amp power steps. Thanks.
