Map lights in 2015 ML350

Map lights in 2015 ML350
Hi
New owner so pls excuse the dumb question - I couldn't find anything in the manual. I am trying to work out if I have a fault. When I press the map light switch in the overhead console (either side - same result), the lights just in front of the switches don't illuminate. Is that normal? The lights under the rear view mirror do switch on though.
Not sure if this is normal as it different to my CLA.
