Distronic

Had our '14 ML3502W for 3+ months now. Got to try out the Distronic for the first time on a 1.5 hr drive. Takes a bit of getting used to, but makes driving really comfortable. I used to need to "time" when I would step on the brakes to get the cruise control to disengage. Then wait for the traffic to improve and turn it back on. All automatic with Distronic. Being able to use the cruise control lever to set speed in 1 mph or 5 mph increments was another plus. Now to try out the Parktronic....

Dittos on the Love/Hate aspect. I'd never NOT buy a car just because the car did not have distronic/adaptive cruise control. My wish is that you could have distronic/adaptice cruise control and have the ability to turn the 'adaptive' part Off at will and just have normal cruise control. Ain't a gonna ever happen though. I HATE having a car from another lane come across my bow from his lane to mine and have the brake put on by something other than ME.

Distronic on Mercedes is worse than Adaptive Cruise Control on Jaguars. Why? It (distronic) view fwd in too wide a view. They need to narrow the distronic 'view' fwd to only the lane the car is being driven in. If I'm in three lanes, and and I'm in the left lane and a eighteen wheeler is in the middle lane, and I'm driving at a greater speed than the 18 wheeler, MY Mercedes will hesitate before pasing the 18 wheeler. Sucks. Jaguars do not do that. I can't speak about other brands with adaptive cruise control. My service adviser at Mercedes says his car does that also.......so I let the subject go. I"ve seen this in a SL550 and a CL550. Seems common to Mercedes brand. Not going to toss the car over this, but it's an irritant. As in Love Hate.

Regular cruise control will apply the brakes on a downhill coast if the speed is getting above what the cruise is set on. This bothers me.

that happened in other cars of mine but i think it may have been engine/trans interplay. this one is definitely brakes. someone said elsewhere that in certain countries they need to slow down quickly if the vehicle starts exceeding limits due to low tolerance for speeding.

i thought you could turn off the distronic in the menu controls. haven't looked since i really like it. it does react faster than i could. maybe turn the distance to the minimum if you can't turn it off. i don't have the stray focus issue. maybe the vector is too wide, i don't know if it is service adjustable. marine radar is range adjustable, maybe this is also.

good luck, ron

I am from the hate it/never use it camp. I have had adaptive cruise control since 2005, for all the reasons mentioned above - it becomes to hard and annoying to deal with; especially passing...
