2015 ML350 Spark Plug interval changed to 46K

Hmmm, just looking for some guidance. The maintenance schedule calls for the plugs to be changed @ 46K miles for the 2015 model vs. 60K miles for the 2014 model.

It appears the OEM plug part number between the two model years is the same. So...does anyone have any insight why the interval was moved forward by 14K miles? Or better, if it's OK that I hold off on changing the plugs until 60K?

Many thanks for your insight!

Eric

My best guess is after the W166 has been out for a few years, Mercedes feels like the spark plugs are not efficient after the 46k mark and that's why the change. Maybe feedback from tech's who are changing them for people at 60k? That being said, I'm at 56k in my '13 and haven't changed mine yet and I don't have any issues.

Degradation in performance will be gradual and you may not notice it unless you are tracking the MPG consumption (not just from on board indicator) manually.

On other models, spark plug change interval has been increased to 100K miles. I also wonder why we are moving in the other direction.

OK - it appears we are stumped, hopefully a tech will stop by this thread and help us better understand the "why". Degradation could be a possibility but the plugs are "double iridium". Heck - even in our CLS550 (M278) it was a 60K interval!

Thanks for the responses...
