Cool 2014 ML350 Bluetec transmission service

2014 ML350 Bluetec tranny pan
Our 2014 ML350 is coming up on the 70k mile service including transmission service. I bought a transmission service kit from ECS but they could not answer my questions. Does this model have a torque converter drain? Do I have to remove the large aluminum crossmember (see photo) to drop the tranny pan?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Normally you don't have to drop the cross member. However I haven't seen that large aluminum one before, maybe just on the diesels? My ML400 is gasoline. Typically the torque converters have drain plugs, but not all.

Are you aware of the requirements to fill the transmission and check the level? It requires a pump and you have to be able to check the transmission temperature.

Thanks. Yes, I have converted a brake fluid bleeder pump container with a transmission fill adapter and on/off lever to replace the fluid. I also have a sensor to measure transmission temperature, so I think I am good to go as long as I don't have to remove the crossmember. The crossmember is buried under plastic covers and attached with nuts that are already corroded, so I don't want to try to remove it unless I have to. No, I have not seen that large aluminum crossmember on any other threads so hopefully someone has some experience with this setup.
Thanks again.

I know it's an old thread but wanted to add to it for others coming by. On my 2013 GL350, it's REALLY hard to access the two transmission pan bolts near the aluminum cross member. Not sure if yours is exactly the same clearance there but here are some solutions to get to the back bolts.
-- Use an 8mm 12 point wrench (just a normal box wrench, open on one side and closed on the other)
-- Try to have 1/4 inch drive E10 socket to get as far as you can with that
-- unbolt the two bolts for the transmission mount and jack up the transmission to give yourself a little more clearance

I have had a heck of a time with these bolts and the aluminum cross member doesn't look very simple to remove. I will probably try unbolting the transmission mount for putting this thing back together. There just isn't room for a socket and wrench between the cross member and bolt and I want to torque the bolts properly on closing it up.

On my vehicle there was a drain on the TC
