2013-14 gasoline ML350 owners: How has your reliability experience been?
Looking for an SUV to get the wife into, to haul 2 small kids around in comfort and style. The ML350 gasoline model is on the short list. However, the one area I'm looking for further detail on is the year over year reliability experience based upon those that have owned these SUVs for a corresponding period of time, from small things to larger, as experienced first hand by those in the community. I've been in the realm of BMW for my own cars for quite a while, and am quite familiar with the various engine/cooling/suspension/chassis risks (and repairs or preventative replacement/reinforcement), as one that maintains their own cars over visiting the dealership.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I bought my wife a 14 Ml350 for same reason to haul 2 kids and a Great Dane around. Got it brand new. Have had no issues with it. It's now at 36,000 miles still on original tires

Purchased our 2012 ML350 4Matic in January, 2016. It had 27,000 miles on it. It currently has just under 50,000 miles and outside of regular maintenance, my only warranty issue was a jammed driver’s shoulder belt positioning device that was fixed by the dealer. I added splash guards, receiver hitch and wiring, and replaced the OEM Continentals at 37500 with Michelin Premier LTX tires, and am very satisfied with the ride. As this was our first MB SUV, I purchased an extended warranty to 75,000 miles at a discount from a dealer recommended on this site. As mentioned in another thread, I purchased a three pack maintenance package to cover the 40 - 60,000 maintenance services at a 30% discount to regular dealer prices. My only regrets were that I did not purchase a vehicle with the factory tow package (it was quite a challenge to find an installer for the hitch and 4pin wiring) and blind spot warning. It’s been a great vehicle, my wife enjoys driving it, and I would purchase another.

40-60k prepaid maintenance
When I calculated the dealer price for each of the three services versus the price of purchasing the prepaid maintenance for the same, I found that I could save about 30% by prepaying for those services.
Given the money market rates over the past two years and the time value of cash, prepaying made sense.
The downside of prepaid maintenance occurs if you trade or total the vehicle before you are able to use it, although it could be used as an inducement in a private sale as it can be transferred to the buyer in a private sale.
Since I am now retired and am not racking up mileage as I used to, I expect to keep this vehicle for quite a while.
If prepaid is available after I complete my 60k service next year, I’ll look into it again.

I bought my 2013 with 36k miles. I now have 69k miles. I had the timing chain tensioner TSB performed by the dealer and I've had to have my a/c system cleaned twice to get rid of a musty smell. Other than that, it's been great.
