Mystery check eng light - 32 days in shop
Here is an interesting issue. Took my '13 ML550 in for schedule B service plus active curve warning. Schedule B went fine and replaced compressor on air ride. All is well. I sign my paperwork and wait for car to be given back. 30 min later my previous loaner pulls around and my SA says a check engine light went on while bringing the car around. They go read a code and say it is throwing a code for a sensor that isn't even on the car. strange. Dealer opens a case with Germany and off I wait. A week later nothing. Next week get a patch and it doesn't work. Try again. Earlier this week they try again and to no avail. I spoke with the head SA yesterday who has been very nice and apologetic. I've had a loaner the entire time and he just offered to pay for a months car payment.
I tell him that its been 31 days and 2 failed attempts. We are in lemon territory. In my state there isn't used car lemons, by magnusson moss should hold up since it's under factory CPO warranty. It sounded like he very much understood that and we agreed to let Mercedes have another go at a fix and go from there.
Couple things. It looks like the check engine light came on while in the care of my dealer. Does that mean anything from a liability perspective?
If we go the buy back route, what can I expect? KBB retail value? Maybe that plus a great deal on a new car or something?

Life is too short to fiddle with these kinds of issues. Talk to the manager at that dealership and see what they'd give for that vehicle. Good luck.
